My family…

Over the past couple of weeks I have realised I have written some very moany posts, sometimes about my family, sometimes about other things!  This week has made me realise how lucky I am to have my family around me and I don’t want my children looking at my blog in a few years and thinking what a miserable, moaning Mummy they have (they will work that out for themselves soon enough!).  With Valentines day coming up it has inspired me to try and make a video to let them know how much they mean to me and how much I love them.

Here goes (I am not very creative and don’t really know how to use the video software properly so it is my best attempt!)…

Little Miss A’s first trip to Scotland

flag

As a family we have a big connection to Scotland. Big Mr A’s family are Scottish and his eldest sister lives in Edinburgh. Every year since we have been together we have made at least one trip up, apart from 2012 as we worked out on our trip up this time. We even got engaged in Edinburgh!

Little Mr A had his first trip up when he was 10 weeks old and now Little Miss A has had her first trip up at 11 weeks!

Little Miss A was really good on the journey up, she slept most of the way! She was great for us the first night and enjoyed sleeping in her cousin’s Moses basket!

After a morning playing at Aunty L and Uncle N’s with cousins J and E we went to a soft play centre for the boys to let off some steam! The girls slept much to our annoyance as we had has to pay for them even though they weren’t going to play! Shame on you Scrambles!

After lunch we headed off to the Gyle Shopping Centre where we stopped at M&S for tea and a feed before doing some girly clothes shopping for Little Miss A. Lots of after Christmas sales meant lots of bargains and Little Miss A’s 6-9 month wardrobe now has more than 1 outfit in it!

Back at Aunty L and Uncle N’s Little Miss A decided to have a good old wiggle on cousin E’s playmat and almost managed to roll right over! Then she had a bath with cousin E before Little Mr A had a bath with cousin J, but I don’t think it will be long before they stop wanting baths together!

Little Miss A must have been very tired from all the excitement and wriggling as she slept through for the first time that night!

In the morning Little Miss A had her first bus trip when we visited the National Museum of Scotland. It is a great interactive place for children with lots of different activities and things to do, and best of all, it is free admission. Although the food was perhaps a little expensive it was very nice and seen as entry is free you don’t mind too much. If we go again I think I would be more organised and take a packed lunch with us!

After letting the children play for a while we got them to bed as early as they would go and had a lovely curry before we had to head home the next day.

It is great to have family up in Edinburgh, we have lots of happy memories of being there as a couple and now we are able to share that with our children.

My photo project for 2013

I have decided I am not taking enough pictures of Little Miss A!  I have hundreds of Little Mr A from birth right up to now, we still take lots of pictures of him!

Looking back it is nice to see how much Little Mr A changed in that first year of his life and I don’t want to miss out on that with Little Miss A so I have decided to set myself the task of taking a photograph of her everyday in 2013 and posting on a new page on my blog.  It will be a great way of documenting her many changes during her first year and be a really nice thing to look back on.

Wish me luck, I am determined to see it through to this time next year!

Goodbye 2012 – it’s been a great year!

If someone had told me last New Years Eve how much my life would change in 2012 I wouldn’t have believed it!

After so long trying for Little Mr A it came as a complete shock in February when I found out I was pregnant!  I had just about resigned myself to the fact that perhaps 1 was our lot and we would have to make do with just Little Mr A.  Then came an even bigger shock in April when we found out we were having a girl.  All this generation of my family are boys and I didn’t think we had the gene to produce girls!

It’s a what?!!!

Also in April this year we moved from a house we hated to a really nice house in a great little village.  Looking around now I know we made the right decision in moving again after 6 months in Hull, even though it was stressful at the time!  It has meant we have spent much more time together as a family even though we were further from work.  Earlier in the year, before I went on maternity leave, we would all go into town together to work and nursery, rather than me getting up as Big Mr A and Little Mr A were going out the door!

In July/August we had a great holiday together in Dorset which was just what we all needed after the upheaval of the move and, to spoil Little Mr A before Little Miss A came along.  We had a great time and even managed to see some of the Olympic sailing in Weymouth (even if we were really far away!) and it was great to be involved in such a great event, even in that small a capacity.

My boys in Dorset 2012

Come September it was time for Little Mr A to start school.  I found it very hard to let go of my little boy for the first few weeks, he still seemed so young!  After a few teething problems in the first half of the term, since the October holiday he seems to have calmed down a lot and is settling into school life really well.  I am so proud of his achievements so far and loved seeing his Christmas play!

October came, and along came Little Miss A.  After a great birth I am absolutely loving having a baby in the house again, she is so easy and fun and I can’t wait for all the exciting times we have ahead in 2013.

My two gorgeous children!

I am very excited about 2013 and all the fun and adventures it will hold for the ‘A’ family.  Big Mr A starts his new job next week and although it means more travelling and less time with the family during the week I am hoping weekends will become even more of a quality family time together.

Happy New Year everyone, hope you all have a great 2013!

Why an Olympic year is so special to us

ringsI was recently reminiscing about major events that have taken place in our family and realised they have all happened in an Olympic year!

Athens 2004 – We got married

2004

Beijing 2008 – Little Mr A was born – I remember watching the rowing whilst having contractions!

2008

London 2012 – Little Miss A was born – Heavily pregnant I was waddling around Weymouth soaking up the Olympic atmosphere!
